This piece started as a picture of a stump (circa 2011) of a silver maple that used to be in our backyard. It was one of the first photos I took with my Canon T2i DSLR. Here’s a link to the original photo. The picture had good contrast of darkness and light with lots of deep crevices and cracks. I had the idea of overlaying a picture of stars. I chose a composite picture of star cluster/nebula NGC 346 assembled by the European Space Agency and Nasa from photos taken by the Hubble Space Telescope. I then added some lava-like effects within the cracks.
I call it “Crack in the Sky”.
